Race for Life 2009
Scone Palace was the venue for the Perthshire Race for Life on 17th May 2009. Ladies Circler Julie and her 12 year old daughter Eleanor took part in the 5k race round the race course and grounds of the historic Scone Palace. Over 2000 people took part and helped to raise over £120,000 for Cancer Research. Cancer Research are almost entirely funded by donations from the public. Events such as the Race for Life go towards funding the work of over 4,500 world-class scientists, doctors and nurses who are dedicated to finding new ways to diagnose, prevent and treat cancer.
Julie and Eleanor managed to raise over £150 and ran on behalf of people battling Myeloma, which has touched Ladies Circle directly. A lot of people were in fancy dress. One girl from a local school did the whole 5k on a space hopper! On everyone’s back there was a sign where you could leave a message about who you were racing for. Julie and Eleanor saw some very poignant messages which only helped to spur them on, especially at the 4k mark when they were directed up a hill. They managed a time of under 55 minutes, which isn’t that fast but the ground was very boggy and they came across the finish line hot, muddy but really thrilled that they had finished.
The event was very well supported and Julie and Eleanor thank all those that sponsored them.
