The weather didn't dampen the cyclists spirits as they took part in the annual charity bike ride from Edinburgh to St Andrews.
The event raises tens of thousands of pounds for LEPRA Health in Action, a leprosy relief charity. Lepra's work helps to fight diseases of poverty, covers medical treatment, health education, preventative measures and economic rehabilitation. This was the 3rd year Kinross Ladies Circle have run the half way food stop, we offer home cooked lunches for riders and lots of friendly encouragement and support. A big thank you to Sainsbury's Kinross who kindly donated bananas for the event. For next year's event and more information and details of registration, which must be done in advance, please contact Ros Kerry on 01968 682369 or email her at Ros_Kerry@lepra.org.uk. Well 2010 was a seriously bumper year. We had over 1200 cyclists take part and we fed over 900 in Kinross. It was hard work but we know it was worth it. Every year the numbers go up by 200...so we keep getting bigger and better. We received terrific feedback and the weather was on our side again. The pictures won't show just how busy we got, as we couldn't take pictures when we were run off our feet, but we did our best and it was a highly successful event.
For 29 years Scotland's largest annual charity bike ride has seen growing numbers of cyclists travelling the 67 miles from Edinburgh to St Andrews. The event is open to cyclists of all abilities and all types of bicycle. The ride leaves the centre of Edinburgh at 8.45am in the morning and follows a well-planned route to the Forth Road Bridge. The route then takes cyclists through Kinross and through some of the loveliest countryside that Perthshire and Fife has to offer to St Andrew's.
In 2008, Kinross Ladies Circle took over the running of the half way point food stop, held in Millbridge Hall. We offer home cooked lunches for riders and lots of friendly encouragement and support. We organised a varied menu for the hungry riders along with drinks, snacks, toilets and water bottle refilling.
The event raises tens of thousands of pounds for LEPRA, a leprosy relief charity. As it only takes £21 to cure one person of the disease, the 1200 riders make a real difference to people's lives across the world.
For next year's event and more information and details of registration, which must be done in advance, please contact Ros Kerry on 01968 682369 or email her at Ros_Kerry@lepra.org.uk. It costs £8 per person (£5 concessions) and there is transport back to Edinburgh (on the Saturday evening or Sunday morning) for tired riders and their bikes. See also the Lepra website.
